Life Can Change in an Instant

In the span of a couple of weeks, I lost a dear friend and four other friends were involved in serious accidents (but would ultimately fully recover).  It was a lot to absorb in such a short period of time.   But, I knew each one of my friends had been given a gift.  My friend who passed away was no longer suffering, after a long battle with illness.  My other friends would, hopefully, soon realize how precious life is and learn to never take it for granted again.

Although the idea that life can change in an instant may be scary to think about, it can also teach us to cultivate a sense of adventure as we go through life.  Are there things you would really like to do, but fear keeps you from doing them?  Do you dwell on what you do not have rather than what you do have?  Are there people you care about, but are "too busy" to keep in touch with?  The question to ask yourself is whether or not you live your values each day.
Being the victim of an accident is traumatic.  Putting the pieces back together afterwards can be very challenging.  When all is said and done, individuals usually have a newfound appreciation for life and the remarkable way our bodies heal.   They learn a lot about themselves and, hopefully, grow from the experience.

Karen Kaiser Clark said, "Life is change.  Growth is optional.  Choose wisely."   I think this is a wonderful quote to use to challenge yourself as you go through life.  How might you compete against yourself in order to grow and move forward?
