Are You Insane?!

The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results.  Flipping the calendar on January 1st is not magical.  It is an arbitrary date.  Without support, structure, and new skills nothing will change in our lives.  We all have blind spots, and we all benefit from support.

We are 2 weeks into the New Year, and I've already heard from several people who were unable to keep their New Year's Resolutions!  I wish I could say that I was surprised to hear these cases.  But, I knew that nothing had changed in the lives of these individuals other than the date on the calendar.  Why would they suddenly be able to hit the gym every day, stop drinking and eating in excess, quit smoking, get more sleep, and be more successful in general?
We all have the best of intentions when we set New Year's Resolutions.  However, they are really fantasies if we do not break them down into S.M.A.R.T. (i.e., Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) goals.

If you are determined to reach your goals this year, why not give yourself the time necessary to write them out and break them down into small, measurable steps?  Develop a plan for getting there.  You will be more successful if you try to avoid all-or-nothing thinking.  For more information on resolutions, check out my recent article on resolutions here:
