Does candy "haunt" you this time of year?


Happy Halloween, Everyone!   I hope you have something fun planned!  I am looking forward to dressing up this year and acting silly with friends.

For many struggling with fitness, weight management, and self-esteem issues, this holiday can be very challenging.  Candy can "haunt" you until one piece becomes two, then three, then four.  Before you know it, the candy somehow "wins" and the whole bag is gone, leaving you feeling defeated and disgusted with yourself.   Not a fun situation.  L
Ever wonder what the Formula is to maintain control during this holiday?  First, have a game plan - otherwise you are setting yourself up for failure.  Take a moment to be honest with yourself.  Do not bring candy into the house, if you know you will be unable to resist it.  Allow yourself one or two pieces of candy as a treat.  Pick something you truly enjoy.  Don't eat it just because it is there.  It really isn't calling your name - I swear!  Consider giving out non-edible items to the Trick-or-Treaters.  If you do have candy leftover after Wednesday, donate it immediately on Thursday or throw it out. 

Focus on the fun and time with friends or the kids rather than the goodies that will be plentiful.   Imagine how good you will feel when you have successfully navigated Halloween this year! Get a vivid picture in your mind of how satisfied you will be with yourself.

And, remember to take care of yourself on a regular basis.  Maintain a regular sleep schedule, eat balanced meals, and exercise.  These lifestyle choices will help to reduce stress and strengthen your resolve in the face of candy and other goodies.
